The Town of Monument celebrated its 32nd year of being designated “Tree City U.S.A.” by planting a tree on Arbor Day April 24. The Monument Parks Department planted a Vanderwolf Pine on the road leading to Monument Lake. This along with three other trees planted on the road earlier in the week are the town’s first Vanderwolf Pines. Parks Superintendant James Schubauer told the small crowd that these trees are supposed to be faster growing, fuller and softer compared to other pines. Schubauer gave tips on how to plant the tree as it was being placed in the ground.
